What personal data we collect and why we collect it:

When visitors leave comments on the website, we collect the data shown in the comments form, the visitor’s IP address, and the browser user agent string to help with spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) which may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

All data we collect could include: all guest’s full name, birth date, names of all other passengers included in a charter. A current email address, full residential address with the  postal code. Prior boating experience, and current health conditions are needed for establishing suitability for a boat & charter experience. A valid credit card will be required to process a deposit for a charter service. It may also be used for credit verification used by the banks or credit reporting agencies on behalf of Fish-On Charters.

 A guest of a charter should be aware we keep a collection or retention of sensitive personal data, such as data concerning their health, or prior boating experience and other related skills or conditions that may exist. The information is only used in rare cases to determine the suitability of the person for a charter or other related services we provide.

Personal data is not just created by a user’s interactions with our site. Personal data is also generated from technical processes such as searches, contact forms, comments, cookies, analytics, or third party embeds. Google maps or other plugin’s we use can collect info pertaining to the location of visitors and which pages they react with.

By default WordPress does not collect any personal data about visitors, and only collects the data shown on the User Profile screen from registered users. We currently have no registered guests and do not intend upon activating this feature of our website. However some of our plugins may collect personal data. Most plugins will provide the user with a consent button to its intention to collect information included within our website pages.

If you have submitted personal information and wish to withdraw it, your consent to its retention, use or disclosure, please send an e-mail to: admin@fishoncharters.ca. You may withdraw your consent, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. If you withdraw your consent, we may not be able to provide some products or services to you.

Where permitted or required by law, we may collect, use or disclose your personal information without your consent, for example, to collect a debt you owed. To comply with a legally permitted inquiry by a the Canadian government agency or a Police (RCMP) or other police forces to comply with a court order.

Media

If you upload images to or from our website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact Forms

We keep contact form submissions for a certain period for customer service purposes. We may use the information submitted through them for marketing purposes other than our own company promotions or special sales and offers. Any third party information users, could use information such as your type of device, location, operating system, and generally any public information within a device or account or user of this website. It is solely the users responsibility to protect their data using whatever security or method they choose. Your browser must be set to accept all third party cookies in order to submit the Book a Charter form or Contact form otherwise it will not send properly.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Any info shared by third party providers of services for this website or our web host SiteGround, or WordPress our CMS, will be to collect statistics of the website. Usage of the services and collecting data to improve the services or products  of each visitor, user or provider of the website.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Our website is secure with encryption technology at work. Our website host SiteGround. It provides us with a secure service and protects us. The users of this website are secure from attack from within this website. Our visitors feel secure in exchanging their personal information and doing business transactions.

What data breach procedures we have in place

to protect our website and all of its information we use a few different plugins (software programs). Such as Anti-Malware, Jetpack Akismet  Firewall. Siteground (Host) who also have their own protective services for our websites. If in a determined case a breach does occur our firewall and host will catch it and lock down the websites. We would inform our guests promptly if such an event were to happen.

Plugin: Smush

Note: Smush does not interact with end users on your website. The only input option Smush has is to a newsletter subscription for site admins only. If you would like to notify your users of this in your privacy policy, you can use the information below.

Smush sends images to the WPMU DEV servers to optimize them for web use. This includes the transfer of EXIF data. The EXIF data will either be stripped or returned as it is. It is not stored on the WPMU DEV servers.

Smush uses a third-party email service (Drip) to send informational emails to the site administrator. The administrator’s email address is sent to Drip and a cookie is set by the service. Only administrator information is collected by Drip.
